The North East summer might be lacking a bit of sunshine right now, but what it’s certainly not lacking is a top notch calendar of incredible events - topped off of course by the ultimate end-of-summer party festival at Beal Farm, which is gonna be here before we know it. In less than 5 weeks, we’ll be opening the gates of Lindisfarne Festival 2017 and you better hold on to your viking hats as with a load of new features (like the ‘almost’ Full Moon Party and our fully loaded Lindie Disco) we’re set to unveil the best festival the North East has ever seen!!
But you wouldn’t start a workout without first warming up your muscles and we wouldn’t want you to dive in to the festival, without full preparing yourself for the shenanigans. So why not go get yourself warmed up for the main action by checking out some of these fantastic events taking place between now and the end of August… I’ve been told Mr Sunshine has already RSVP’ed to them all ;-)
Various Dates: 27th July - 6th August
Last year saw the likes of Fatboy Slim, Ocean Colour Scene and Primal Scream entertaining mass crowds at the inaugural Live From Times Square and there’s another stellar lineup flocking to Newcastle for 2017. The inner city gigs are back bigger and better this year with performances already nailed by Jake Bugg and Leftfield. Tonight, the legends that are James head to Times Square for what promises to be an epic indie performance in the heart of Newcastle City Centre. Then next week you'll be spoiled for choice with The Libertines, Manic Street Preachers, Brian Wilson & Hacienda Classical headlining across the August four-dayer.
Supporting The Libertines on Thursday 3rd August is Newcastle's most successful alt-rock output of the noughties Maximo Park as well as up and coming local rock trio The Pale White, who recently rocked the stage and wowed the crowds at Glastonbury. Not that you really need another excuse to go see The Libertines, but these talented local lads are well worth a watch! Go show them some support on their hometurf next week and get yourself a taste of what's to come when they make their way up the coast to Lindisfarne Festival to headline our BBC Introducing Stage on 2nd September.
The Hangar Festival (Part 2)
Saturday 5th August
You'll never get an opportunity to see Kasabian, Stereophonics, AC/DC, Guns n' Roses, Blondie, Bob Marley & Johnny Cash on the same lineup. At least not in this lifetime! But get yourself down to The Hangar on the 5th August and you'll come pretty damn close.
With a mish-mash of some of the UK's best tribute acts lined up, The Hanger Festival (which takes place for the second time at the old heliport site at Blyth's Riverside) is set to be another brilliant summer all dayer. Throw in some great street food stalls, a few original live acts and of course plenty of belting tunes to sing along to and I can't think of a much better way to spend a Saturday. We'll see you down moshpit!
Saturday 19th August
Shiver me timbers! Get ready for a festival invasion in the Ouseburn Valley as Lindisfarne Festival will be taking command of The Ship Inn for the ultimate summer festival pre-party! Kicking off around 3pm with a vegan summer BBQ on the courtyard opposite The Cluny, expect festival vibes in abundance which will keep on flowing late into the night. There'll be live performances from our festival faves Hip Hop Hooray and Ladies of Midnight Blue, plus DJ's Dave Guy & Silvah Fox bringing those funky, soulful summer tunes. And of course it wouldn't be a festival theme without plenty of roaming street entertainers. Plus, Northern Line Studios and Soca-To-Me will be getting in the groove and turning up the heat with hot dance performances and sizzling fire shows which are not to be missed.
This one's FREE ENTRY and it's gonna be HOT HOT HOT, so grab yer mateys and get on board for a jolly ol' knees up before the main voyage to Lindisfarne Festival 2017. Fancy dress optional.
Sat 26th / Sun 27th / Mon 28th August
We know many people see a bank holiday weekend as the perfect opportunity to go out and hit the city bars, but with just a week to go until the North East's best 3 day music & camping festival, you'll probably want to steer clear of the excessive pint drinking. Instead, why not head to Bents Park in South Shields to get yourself accustomed to the great outdoors and line your stomach with some incredible food being served up at one of the North East's biggest food events. Taking place over the full August Bank Holiday weekend, there'll be amazing street food, world record food attempts, live music and a gin festival (coz no one expects you to be tee-total on a bank hol!)
Brought to you by the team behind the North East Chilli Festival, this one's family friendly too, so it's the perfect place to take the kids - before you ditch them with the babysitters while you go have the time of your life at Beal Farm the following weekend ;-)
Thursday 31st August
This year we’re kicking off Lindisfarne Festival with an opening night party that will go down in history (literally!) with music spanning from the 20’s, right through to the 90’s & noughties. From 7pm, you can enjoy live performances by Viper Swing, 70’s Cop Show and gypsy-folk-rock band Holy Moly & The Crackers who will be headlining the ‘Viking Brewhouse’. Meanwhile over in the Inspiredome, revellers can dance the night away at Inspired Support's interactive ‘Dance to the Future’ experience, before busting some moves to the beats of Dafter Punk and Fatboy Slima, who will be recreating the sights and sounds of some of the biggest DJs in the world.
As the clocks strike midnight, you’ll be transported back to 2017 so you can catch a good night’s kip in the campsite, where you can wake up bright-eyed and bushy tailed ready to fully embrace all the magic the festival has to offer.
Make no mistake, Lindisfarne Festival 2017 is going to be full throttle! Make sure you've got your tickets in advance and go start getting those festival muscles warmed up for the North East's greatest, hottest, wildest weekend of the year!
See you there!
